Stamped Concrete Patio

Stamped Concrete Contractors

Stamped concrete is a fast-growing trend for outdoor spaces in Denver. Driveways, patios, walkways and more can be stamped and pigmented to look like brick, pavers, cobbles, wood or other mediums. Areas that otherwise wouldn’t warrant a second glance can be transformed into stunning show-stoppers.

Stamped concrete is beautiful and durable and can be more economical than bricks, precast pavers or stone, since pouring, coloring and stamping concrete is usually less labor intensive than hauling and placing individual pieces by head.

But the stamped concrete look is not easy – we caution you against doing it yourself. It takes a practiced hand to achieve consistent results. Let our experienced stamped concrete contractors do the work for you. Stamped concrete is a simple yet tricky process. In a nutshell, we add pigment to the concrete while it’s in the mixer, or we apply it directly to the surface of the poured concrete. Next, we apply a release medium to make the surface less sticky. Then, we stamp the concrete using concrete stamps or texturized mats depending on the look we are going for. Finally, we allow the concrete to dry, then we pressure wash it to remove the release medium.

What's the process for stamped concrete?

  1. Place the concrete. Concrete should be no less than four inches thick.
  2. Add color. Color is added either in the mixer or after concrete placement. The first method is called "integral coloring" and the second method is called "broadcast or surface coloring." Broadcast coloring involves evenly spreading dry color across the surface of the concrete.
  3. Apply release agent. Release agent allows the texturizing mats to come off without taking off concrete.
  4. Lay mats. Texturizing mats are laid in succession. Since there are usually not enough mats to cover the entire surface, when one is finished it is applied to another area of the concrete.
  5. Let dry 24 hours.
  6. Pressure wash the release agent off.
  7. Clear sealing.
